It is a device that compensates for changes in pipeline length and absorbs the stress caused by temperature changes in the pipeline through expansion and contraction.

Main functions of flange expansion joint:

Compensation for thermal expansion and contraction: This is the most important function. When the pipeline transports high-temperature fluid or the ambient temperature changes, thermal expansion and contraction will occur, generating huge axial, lateral or angular stresses. The expansion joint absorbs these displacements through its own elastic deformation to prevent the pipeline from bending, breaking or damaging the bracket due to excessive stress.

Absorb vibration: The mechanical vibration generated by pumps, compressors, flow meters and other equipment during operation will be transmitted to the pipeline system. The expansion joint effectively absorbs and isolates these vibrations, reduces the impact on the pipeline itself, the bracket and the connected equipment, improves the stability and reliability of the system operation, and reduces the risk of pipeline leakage.
Compensate for installation deviation: The expansion joint has a certain flexibility and can compensate for installation errors within a small range. In pipeline installation, the offset error between pipelines can be compensated by the flange expansion joint to simplify the installation process.

Absorb foundation settlement: When the pipeline passes through areas with different geological conditions or near the foundation of large equipment, uneven settlement may occur. The expansion joint can absorb the resulting relative displacement of the pipeline to prevent the pipeline from being cracked or crushed.

Convenient equipment maintenance: For equipment that needs regular maintenance or replacement, expansion joints are set on the pipes before and after them to provide a certain degree of "relaxation" when disassembling the equipment, which is convenient for removing flange bolts and removing equipment.
